The Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court has set-up a Special Bench to look after the appeals filed by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and three others who were convicted in disproportionate assets case. Jaya and her close aides were convicted and sentenced to jail by a special court of Karnataka for corruption during AIADMK's regime in Tamil Nadu.
On October 17th, Jaya got bail in this case and on December 18th the High Court of Karnataka has directed the Special Bench to decide Jayalalithaa's plea within three months. On September 27th, the Special Court found Jaya and her close aides guilty of amassing Rs 66 crores illegally. She was slapped with Rs 100 penalty and Rs. 10 crore individually on the three other convicts.
