The Income Tax department withdrew four separate cases against former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa and her close aide Sasikala. The IT department has filed cases against Jaya and Sasikala for failing to file IT returns for the year 1991-92 and 1992-93. A Magistrate Court under Section 321 of the CrPC, withdrew all the charges against the accused.
This is only a small sign of relief to Jaya who is convicted in disproportionate assets case and a Rs 2-crore birthday gifts case investigated by the CBI are still in pending. With the conviction on the disproportionate assets case, Jaya lost the chief minister post and also cannot contest the elections for next six years.
