The reason for the blackout is due to the Alureon virus which is supposed to have attacked the global systems since the last one year. The main activity of this virus is to redirect the web user from real sites to spoof sites.
Alureon virus was first recognised in 2011 in US when a major hacking took place. And experst say this week the virus is set to target 2,45,000 global computers. Hence the temporary servers will shut down at 4.01 GMT (9.31 am IST) on Monday. This simply implyes that the infected PCs that have not been fixed will no longer be able to connect to the Internet.

What is the threat: The Alureon virus is what's known as a Trojan horse, a type of virus that sneaks its way onto your hard drive and unleashes untold havoc. Alureon Trojan horse virus downloads adware, spyware and other malicious files onto your computer without your knowledge. Alureon also creates corrupt files within the Windows win directory, particularly win32 files, causing serious problems with the computer's overall performance.
Symptoms: Common side effects include hijacked desktop properties, repeated pop-up ads, redirected Web searches, sluggish performance and attempted program use resulting in a blue screen. But one major effect is that the sysytem's task manager might auto switch on and frequent beeps might be heard on the speakers.
Remedial Measures: The virus goes by the names like Trojan.Zlob, DNSChanger, Trojan.DnsChange and TROJ_DNSCHAN. Remove such files from the registry alongwith removing Windows registry keys and registry values associated with the virus. However take an expert guidance to do the same.
