As Wishesh was warning since some time regarding the Internet Black Monday, today, July 09, is the day. Take care while you surf the internet. It is advised that it would be better to stay away for any online financial transactions for the day. Nearly quarter-million computer users around the world are at risk of losing Internet access today because of malicious software at the heart of a hacking scam that US authorities shut down last November. In India alone around 20,000 may loose Internet access from July 09. The reason for the Internet Black Monday is due to Alureon virus that redirects the web user from real sites to spoof sites.
Alureon virus was first recognised in 2011 in US when a major hacking took place. And experts say this week the virus is set to target 2,45,000 global computers. Hence the temporary servers will be shut down at 4.01 GMT (9.31 am IST) on Monday. This simply implyes that the infected PCs that have not been fixed will no longer be able to connect to the Internet.
However, the good news is that it is easy to fix. Information on how to identify and clean up infections can be found on a website that a group of security firms and other experts set up: www.dcwg.org. Experts say that this is just a simple issue, if attended immediately.
Though as usual the media hype says it is an `Internet Doomsday', the reality varies and there is ample information available to protect your computer on the internet, even if affected. So make use of this and enjoy surfing. But stay away from online financial transactions for the day say sources.
