By now everyone would have become familiar with LEDs, Light Emitting Diodes and just when the common man has memorized what the abbreviation stands for there is a newer technology that would soon hit the market, revolutionizing the household lighting systems. A pakistani scientist has successfully “grown” LEDs on a paper.
Perfect white light from your walls (wallpaper) is no longer a distant dream. Gul Amin, has published his thesis on how to grow white LEDs on a paper directly using Zinc Oxide and a conducting polymer.
He also described methods of printing the same with a method that is awaiting the patent approval. Zinc Oxide nanostructures were most suited for the wallpaper as they had the required characteristics that allow the light production and the emission of perfect white light. Improving the work of his co-researcher he has succeeded on growing the Zinc Oxide on a paper.
Gul Also described methods of using ultra sound to scrape the nanothreads grown on the paper to be collected as powder. This powder can be used in printers to print the LEDs on a paper. The patent for this method is pending.
