What could have triggered Marissa Mayer to move to Yahoo from Google where she had ample recognition? If the position is one thing, the major reason is the package that she is receiving. Marissa is entitled to over $129 millio over 5 years if she can lead Yahoo in the right way.
Yahoo had disclosed the details of the compensation that it had offered to the new CEO of the company on Thursday. It could be larger than what an average CEO in the Silicon Valley draws but definitely not the more than the chief of many publicly held technology companues.
Tim Cook, the successor of Steve Jobs, Apple Inc has a compensation package that is valued at $378 million in salary, bonuses and stock awards over 10 years while his annual salary is $900,000.
Tim Cook, Apple's chief executive, has a compensation package valued at $378 million in salary, bonus and stock award that vests over 10 years. His annual base salary is $900,000. Her Hewlett Packard counterpart, Meg Whitman has a salary that is conditional with the stock market and is still much lower than Mayer's.
Larry Page, her boss at Google, has a salary of $ 1 only. Shocking? But thats not all, as the co founder of the company he has over 26.2 million shares in the company stock. With each sharea valued at $593.06 his stock is worth over $15.5 billion.
Mayer's package has $1 million base salary per year and she can receive upto $ 4 million every year which would depend on the performance of the company though. She also is entitled to $12 million in the stock market, half of it restricted in stock but she can invest the rest in options along with similar valued awards in the years to come. She would also receive a one-tme retention equity award of $30 million which would be endowed in 5 years.
The numbers might look big but with Yahoo, a multibillion dollar company, the percentage is small but sizable.
Mayer, who is extremely fond of extravagant parties and collecting expensive art, designer wears has no lack for money. She made millions for being the 20th employee in Google running the search business and developing the most successful products like Google Maps and Gmail.
