TRAI Launches A New Channel Selector App For Cable Subscribers:- The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) announced the launch of a new channel selector application for the television subscribers of DTH and cable services. The application is named the 'Trai Channel Selector app'. This app will help the subscribers to view, modify and optimize the channel packs. The application is available on iOS and Google Play Store and currently has four DTF operators: Tata Sky, Dish TV, d2h and Airtel TV and four MSOs (multiple system operators), Hathway, SITI Networks, In Digital and Asianet. TRAI made it clear that these make over 50% of the subscribers of television. Twelve other operators are holding talks and are in plans to come on to the board.

Trai Channel Selector app was planned for release in April but it got delayed due to coronavirus. Trai Channel Selector app comes with a four-step process. The subscriber should start with the selection of the DTH operator from the list and enter the details, subscriber ID or the setup box number. The subscriber can view the current plan and will be allowed to add or delete the channels of their choice. The subscriber can then review the subscription plan and it will be sent for the distributor to get the requested channels for the lowest price. The DTH operators made these available on their websites too. TRAI said that they are keen to bring all the platforms on to a transparent interface so that the subscribers pick up their best plans for the lowest prices.

The new order is expected to make channels and the subscriptions cheaper.
