Omar Abdullah resigns

Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has resigned to the post after the defeat in the recent elections. Omar Abdullah's National Conference could manage to win only 15 seats out of the 87 J&K Assembly, however, he ruled the possibility of joining the government with any party. Omar contested from Sonwar and Beerwah. He lost in one and won in the latter constituency.

Omar also clarified that he and his party would sit in the Opposition. No party got a majority in Jammu & Kashmir while People's Democratic Party emerged as the single largest party winning 28 seats. Bharatiya Janata Party is the second largest party, has won 25 seats. 44 is the magic figure to form government in the valley state.
