Where are the apps in Windows 8?

Microsoft has broken all the records of the technology giant from Cupertino, Apple Inc, with the recent launch of its latest OS, Windows 8. Microsoft claims that it has already sold over 40 million licences of Windows 8 in just over a month which is higher than what Apple had achieved in the past with any of its releases. The best was from iPhone 4S in 2011 when it managed to sell 37 million in three months.

But sales never translate to how much people accept the product they purchased. However, Microsoft seems to have the edge with more than just a few people on its OS and it sure is an intimidating contender in the field. At the moment, there is a great scarcity of applications on the OS though. There is no Facebook, Twitter, Draw Something or even Words with Friends on the store. With even popular apps like these missing from the store, what is Windows 8 aiming to achieve.

People using Surface and other devices based on Windows 8 have been very comfortable with the way they operate and how optimized the OS is for a touchscreen device but without the apps to make use of the finest technology Windows 8 would be a failure. The app developers should understand that there are at least 40 million users and move to Windows 8 platform sooner than expected.

What is the point of having a powerful device and not being able to use it for the most basic communication purposes like Facebook or even a decent application for Gtalk?
