Google blames Survey of India for Mapathon fiasco

Delhi Police ended the speculations after it was proved that the search engine giant has not violated any rules of the country's mapping after Survey of India blamed Google for not contacting them before the Mapathon Contest. Police concluded that despite Google expressing and addressing to the concerns of mapping rules.

Google said that SoI had contacted them on March 22 regarding the contest to which they responded on March 25th as requested. However, they never got back with a date or plan regarding the discussion of the concerns that were expressed by the Indian organization. "We have not heard back from them... we are always available to discuss any concerns that they or other agencies might have regarding our programmes", Google said.

Google was asked to stop the contest earlier by Survery on India since it was violation of the mapping rules of India. SoI however falsely claimed that Google was contacted on 21st March and yet they had not gotten back to them on the issue while also asking police to register a complaint.

The national map policy states that Survey of India is the only mandated authority which can survey the installations that belong to the restricted category but Mapathon could have been contradictory to the rules as it asked the users to use Map Marker and update the local places accurately.
