Indian-American Richard Rahul Verma has been sworn in as the US Ambassador to India and became the first ever Indian origin US citizen to be US diplomat in New Delhi. Verma will replace Nancy Powell who quit this March following the Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade fraud visa charges.
Richard Rahul Verma will arrive to India next month ahead of US President Barack Obama's tour of India to join the Republic Day celebrations. Verma was the crucial member for the smooth passage of India-US Nuclear deal. Verma also has long association with President Obama. Verma's parents came to US in early 1960s and settled here.
