Purnam Burelu is a traditional sweet of Andhra Pradesh. Purnam is symbolic with festivals and celebrations, most Andhrs homes prepare this delicacy. Specially made during Sankranti, Vinayaka Chaturthi and Dusshera festivals, this sweet is offered to the Gods during the pooja. It's a heavenly delicacy and quite popular in the Andhra region. Burelu is fortified with nutrition and provides Calcium, Thiamin, Iron, Niacin, Riboflavin, Vitamin A and Vitamin C.
Ingredient
250 gm Bengal gram
250 gm grated jaggery or sugar
250 gm rice flour
125 gm black gram
12 cardamom (powdered)
1/2 cup melted butter
1-cup coconut cut into small pieces
Instruction

Wash the black gram and soak in water for four hours. Drain water and make a fine paste using very little water. Add a pinch of salt to the rice flour and mix. Make a batter of the gram paste and rice flour. Keep the batter covered for three hours atleast.

Pressure cook the Bengal gram with just enough water. When done add jaggery or sugar and cook again, stirring from time to time, till the residue is a thick paste.

Now add the cardamom powder, coconut pieces and melted butter into the thick gram paste and mix well. Make medium size balls using this paste.

Heat oil in a deep vessel for frying the Burelus. Dip each sweet ball in the gram-rice batter and fry till golden brown. You can fry Purnam Burelus in batches of three to four.
Voila! The Purnam Burelus are ready to be served.
